On 30 Oct 2014, Nangang Industrial Zone Utility and Infrastructure Construction Leading Office (hereinafter referred to as ‘Nangang Public Construction Office’) held Nangang Industrial Zone Desalinated Seawater Mixing Plan Expert Review Meeting with the representatives from TEDA Public Utility Bureau Nangang Branch, Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone Development Co., Ltd., Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone Energy Co., Ltd., Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone Water Service Co., Ltd., Xianda (Tianjin) Seawater Resources Development Co., Ltd. and Tianjin Municipal Engineering Design Institute. Five experts were invited to the meeting: Academician Li Guibai of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director Zhang Yushan of Tianjin Seawater Desalination and Integrated Utilisation Institute of National Oceanic Administration, Professor Zhao Xinhua of Tianjin University, Research Analyst Liu Guoxin of Sinopec Tianjin Company and Professor Senior Engineer Ji Xuan of Sinopec.
Deputy Director of Nangang Public Construction Office Lian Liguo hosted the expert review meeting. Lian extended welcome to the experts and nominated Academician Li Guibai to be the head of the expert panel. Lian presented the water supply model in Nangang Industrial Zone and the background of the expert review meeting. Nangang Industrial Zone is in its construction and development phase. The design and construction of distribution network has been conducted in a careful and prudent manner. The proposal of mixing surface water and desalinated seawater was raised with the consideration of integrated utilisation of resources and cost saving. The construction unit reported the desalinated seawater mixing plan in the following four aspects: the compatibility of desalinated seawater with piping network, measures to ensure the water specification stability in the piping network in different temperatures, mixed water specification stability in the piping network as well as network design and material selection.
The experts presented their insights and opinions respectively. After thorough and repeated discussions, the meeting was concluded with the following opinions from the experts: 1. Remineralised desalinated seawater can enter cast iron network with anti-corrosion painting inside, however the construction unit was advised to improve remineralisation process design; 2. As Nangang is a new industrial zone, high anti-corrosion materials are advised to be selected for the distribution network. At last, the experts advised the construction unit to conduct corrosion test on the remineralised surface water and desalinated seawater beforehand. Microbe corrosion will be included in the test.
