Expert Review Meeting of Water Intake Structure for Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone Seawater Desalination and Integrated Utilization Project of Xianda Company
On 19 December 2014, Xianda (Tianjin) Seawater Resources Development Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Xianda Company”) hosted Expert Review Meeting of Water Intake Structure for Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone Seawater Desalination and Integrated Utilization Project in Tianjin Shangri-La Hotel. The meeting was chaired by Academician Qiu Dahong from Chinese Academy of Engineering. The Chairman of Xianda Company Mr. Victor Wee said this is a very visionary project and the project is the only water intake source for Nangang Industrial Zone. Nine experts were invited to form the expert panel: Academician Qiu Dahong from Chinese Academy of Engineering (head of the panel), Chinese Engineering Design Master Gu Minquan (deputy head of the panel) of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) First Harbor Consultants Co., Ltd., Chinese Engineering Design Master Wang Rukai of CCCC Fourth Harbor Consultants Co., Ltd., Consultant and Chief Engineer Wang Meiru of CCCC First Harbor Consultants Co., Ltd., former Chief Engineer Fan Qijin of Yangtze Estuary Waterways Management Bureau, Deputy Chief Engineer Li Yandong of Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources, Deputy Director Lu Zhongmin of Shanghai Investigation, Design & Research Institute, Deputy Chief Engineer Li Guang of Northern China Water Resources, Design & Research Co., Ltd. and Deputy Chief Engineer Ni Yongqiang of Zhejiang Institute of Hydraulics and Estuary. Also attending the meeting were representatives from State Oceanic Administration Information Centre, Tianjin Development and Reform Commission, Nangang Public Utilities Construction Office, Nangang General Engineering Office, Tianjin Oceanic Department, Tianjin Oceanic Assessment Centre and soil investigation company.
Xianda COO Mr. Cheng Jew Kien outlined the selection criteria and key considerations for this review. Beiyang Design Institute and Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute presented their designs of Cassion Structure and Sandbag Sloping Dyke respectively.
The experts expressed their opinions and views according to the following criteria: structure applicability, technical feasibility, structure stability, and construction duration and safety.
In closing, Mr. Victor Wee conveyed his gratitude to the experts for their considerable support. He stressed that the project shall be conducted with creativity and innovation. Cassion structure is neither a novelty locally nor abroad, we should be visionary when making the final selection.
