Tianjin Party Secretary Li Hongzhong and Deputy Party Secretary and acting Mayor of Tianjin Wang Dongfeng received the Malaysian government delegation led by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak at Tianjin Guest House Hotel on the morning of 3 November 2016. Both parties had an in-depth conversation regarding the promotion of friendly communication and pragmatic cooperation between Malaysia and Tianjin.

On behalf of Tianjin Party Committee and Municipal Government, Li Hongzhong welcomed the Malaysian delegation. He said: we are very grateful to the Prime Minister’s special visit to Tianjin during your stay in China which signifies your attention and focus to the development of Tianjin. As the largest port city in northern China, Tianjin possesses special geographic advantages, and serves as an important connection of the New Eurasian Continental Bridge Economic Corridor and a strategic point of “One Belt One Road” Initiative. Accelerating the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Coordinated Development is our strategy for new economic growth in which Tianjin plays an important role. The combination of advantage and opportunity expands the horizon of cooperation between Tianjin and Malaysia. In recent year, the ties between Tianjin and Malaysia in various field have become closer, and the cooperation in commerce and investment has been fruitful. The signing of framework operation agreement of the seawater desalination project will play a significant role in the utilisation of water resources and the promotion of sustainable development. We sincerely hope that, during Prime Minister’s visit in Tianjin, both party can deepen the cooperation in various aspects and achieve mutual benefits.
Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak conveyed his gratitude of the hospitality of Tianjin government. He said: during this visit, I have personally experienced the great economic and social advancement of China. Tianjin, as an important strategic point of “One Belt One Road” Initiative, has yielded excellent economic results and will bound to achieve its great potentials in the future. We will encourage Malaysian companies to invest in Tianjin and come to seek business opportunities. The implementation of the seawater desalination project will promote the bilateral investment on seawater desalination and comprehensive utilisation to realise mutual benefits. We are very optimistic about Tianjin’s future and looking forward to the closer communication between businesses and governments for more economic collaborations.
After the meeting, Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (Nangang Industrial Zone) Administrative Commission and Xianda (Tianjin) Seawater Resources Development Co., Ltd. signed the Operation Agreement relating to Nangang Integrated Seawater Desalination and Salt Making Project.

Other members of Malaysian delegation are Malaysian Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting, Transport Minister Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dato’ Abdul Rahman Dahlan, Malaysian ambassador to China Dato’ Zainuddin Bin Yahya, etc. Chinese ambassador to Malaysia Huang Huikang, Tianjin government officials Cheng Qisheng, Zong Guoying, Zhao Haishan and Yu Qiujun also attended the meeting and ceremony.
