'Zero Discharge' Seawater Desalination Project

Release date:【2014-7-29】

The Integrated Seawater Desalination and Salt-Making Project in Nangang IndustrialZone of Tianjin Binhai New Area is the first ‘Zero Discharge’ seawater desalination project in China. The gross investment will reach RMB 15 billion yuan. The investment for Phase One is approximately 5.5 billion yuan. The production is expected to start in 2017.

The Integrated Seawater Desalination and Salt-Making Project in Nangang Industrial Zone commenced on 29th May. This is the first ‘Zero Discharge’ seawater desalination project of China. It will not only meet the water demand of industrial zones and the demand of salt and chemicals, but will also preserve ocean ecological environment and free up salt field of around 300 square kilometers.

As an integral part of Nangang Industrial Zone, the project will provide clarified water, desalinated seawater, demineralized water and other water products after production. The concentrated brine in the production process will be used for salt production and chemical extraction.

‘World leading and cutting-edge technology and process are applied in the Integrated Seawater Desalination and Salt-Making Project’, said Mr. Victor Wee, the CEO of Xianda Group. With advanced membrane technology and zero-discharge technology, the Integrated Seawater Desalination and Salt-Making Project will supply petrochemical projects in Nangang Industrial Zone with various water products and industrial materials. Meanwhile, 300 square kilometers of salt field will be released to increase the value of national land resources.

The Integrated Seawater Desalination and Salt-Making Project is invested by Xianda (Tianjin) Seawater Resources Development Co., Ltd. Which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Xianda Holdings (HK) Co., Ltd. According to the Investment Collaboration Agreement, Xianda will take charge of the design and implementation of ‘zero discharge’ system. The desalinated seawater will be used for industrial purposes and concentrated brine will be used for salt and mineral making. The project will help accelerate the economic development and urbanization of Binhai New Area. It also supports the economic development of Nangang with water and minerals. The Project is commercially viable and superior to ordinary desalination projects in terms of investment return. (Reporter: Wang Sen)
