Sun Chunlan met Malaysian government delegation and attended the groundbreaking ceremony of Integrated Seawater Desalination and Salt-Making Project of Xianda Group

Yesterday, the member of CPC Political Bureau and Party Secretary of Tianjin, Sun Chunlan met with Malaysian government delegation in Tianjin Yingbin Hotel. On behalf of Tianjin Party Committee, the Standing Committee of Tianjin People's Congress, Tianjin Municipal Government, Tianjin People's Political Consultative Conference and Tianjin people, Sun extended welcome to the guests.

Sun said, this year is the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between the two countries. The visit is of great significance to the overall development of strategic partnership, communication and cooperation in all areas of the two countries. The special visit represents the focus on the development of Tianjin. It will certainly deepen the understanding and friendship as well as push forward the bilateral relationship and cooperation. 

Sun Chunlan gave a brief introduction of the history of Tianjin, social and economic development. She said, Tianjin has the advantages in geography, ports, manufacture, science and education and talents. It has the great opportunity of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Co-development, the development of Binhai New Area, promotion of investment and service trade. The trade and economic relationship between Tianjin and Malaysia is being strengthened. The Seawater Desalination and Integrated Utilisation Project commenced today represents the complementary advantages of both parties. It is not only significant to the development of Tianjin, but is also the testimony of close cooperation of both countries. We shall take this opportunity to share the experiences of development, to strengthen cooperation and make our contribution to the bilateral tie.

Malaysian Defense Minister Hishammuddin said, China is the largest trade partner of Malaysia. This year is the 40 thanniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between the two countries. We would like to develop an overall strategic partnership and broaden the horizon of our cooperation. I am delighted to visit beautiful Tianjin. We are impressed by the profound historical and cultural heritages as well as the social and economic development of Tianjin. The cooperation between Malaysia and China and Tianjin will have a broad prospect. The Project is the best demonstration. I hope we can enhance communication and deepen our cooperation to lay a solid foundation for the next 40 years’ cooperation between the two countries.

After the meeting, Sun Chunlan attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony of Integrated Seawater Desalination and Salt-Making Project with Malaysian guests. Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry Mustapha read the speech of congratulations from Malaysian Prime Minister Najib. The Project is located in Nangang Industrial Zone of Tianjin Economic Development Area. The gross investment is around RMB 15 billion yuan. The capacity of the project: 1 million m3/day of clarified water and 600,000 m3/day of desalinated seawater. The project produces refined salt, minerals and other salt processed products.

Ong Ka Ting, Prime Minister's Special Envoy to China, Douglas, Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Sabri, Minister of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry, Ebin, Minister of Science,Technology and Innovation and Malaysian Ambassador Sarudin came to Tianjin. Chinese Ambassador Huang Huikang, Municipal official Duan Chunhua and Zong Guoying attended the ceremony.
