Tianjin Daily reported on November 16 that Tianjin People's Congress Chairman Xiao Huaiyuan led the Tianjin delegation to visit Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore from November 5-14. The visit was responding to the invitations made by Malacca State Assembly of Malaysia, East Java Provincial Assembly of Indonesia and Singapore National Development Board.
During the visit to Malaysia, Xiao Huaiyuan first met Malaysia Prime Minister Special Envoy to China and Chairman of Malaysia China Business Council, Ong Ka Ting, and later Deputy Speaker of the Malacca State Assembly and Business Envoy to China of Malacca State. He briefed them on the economic and social development of Tianjin, the new achievements made in the development of Binhai New District and the progress made in the development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area. He hoped to further strengthen economic and cultural, educational and other fields of cooperation and exchanges with Malaysia, and also to enhance friendly exchanges between Tianjin and Malacca. Ong Ka Ting expressed his willingness to act as a good messenger to promote development and better relationship between the two countries. Xiao Huaiyuan visited the headquarters of Enersave Group and studied to accelerate the construction of the Seawater Desalination project in Tianjin. Xiao Huaiyuan was invited to Taylor's University in Kuala Lumpur, and held in-depth discussion for continuing cooperation between Tianjin Foreign Studies University and Taylor's University. Cooperation between Tianjin Foreign Studies University and Taylor University were discussed in detail.
During his visit to Singapore, Xiao Huaiyuan held talk with Singapore Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan, Senior Minister for National Development and Minister of Trade and Industry Li Yi Yin. They exchanged views on issues related to the expansion of investment for the cooperation of the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city. Both parties expressed that they would complete the tasks as agreed in the seventh meeting of the SSTEC Joint Coordination Council in mid October. Xiao Huaiyuan visited the Singapore Parliament and met the Chairman of Sino-Singapore Friendship Group for discussion. He introduced the system of People's Congress Standing Committee of China and the situation of Tianjin Municipal People's Congress Standing Committee. He also visited Singapore Marine Parade Community Club and had a briefing on the work of the Singapore People's Association.
